1/24/13 - Automated Call Phishing for Card Numbers/PINs

A few members have reported receiving a call informing them that their MasterCard credit card or HOPEAnytime debit card has been deactivated.  The call is usually an automated message and asks members to input their card information in order to reactivate the card.  This is a scam and members should not enter their card information.

HOPE does not use an automated service and if there is an issue with your cards, we will not ask for your card number or your pin.

If you have provided your debit card number or pin to anyone, contact HOPE immediately by calling us toll-free at 1-866-321-HOPE, sending an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , or visiting one of our branches.  If you have provided information about your MasterCard credit card to anyone, call the toll-free number on the back of the card: 1-800-449-7728.

8/23/12 - Fraudulent Phone Calls, Text Messages, and Emails are Phishing for Account Information

3/16/2011 - Scam Alert: Fraudulent Text Messages from "HOPECU Alerts"

HOPE has received from both members and non-members reports of text messages being sent to phones from “HOPECU Alerts”. The message claims that there is an issue with the recipient’s debit card. They are asked call one of two numbers and then key in card information to reactivate their cards.

This is a phishing scam to get card information from our members and potentially members of other financial institutions. These messages were not sent by HOPE and recipients should not respond to them. Once a member has entered this information, thieves have access to the member’s account.

HOPE will never contact our members to request card PIN information.

If you have provided this information to anyone over the last several days, please contact your nearest branch or call our Member Service Center toll-free at 1-866-321-HOPE so we can try to prevent fraudulent activity on your account.

3/14/2011 - Scam Alert: Southeast Financial Credit Phishing for Debit Card Information

We have reports of HOPE members receiving automated calls on their cell phones beginning the weekend of March 13 from Southeast Financial Credit regarding their debit card access.  This is a phishing scam to get card information from our members.

The caller tells the member that their debit cards have been deactivated and that they should key in certain account information if they want the card reinstated.

2/1/2010 - Text Message Scam Reported

Two credit unions in the Jackson area were the targets of a text message scam.

The message, which stated "(Credit Union Name) service Frozen. Please Call 877-312- 2131," was received by both members and non-members. Some variations also included what appeared to be an email address.

Reports are that the scam used the names of Members Exchange and Magnolia Federal Credit Unions. Be aware that those names can be altered to any name the hoaxers wish.

The Federal Trade Commission has been contacted about these incidents and has advised those that received this text to call 1-877-382-4357.

If you receive a message of this type, whether it claims to be from HOPE or any other financial institution, you should know that it is an attempt at financial fraud. HOPE never requests personal information in unsolicited text messages, phone calls, or emails.

The full text of one of the fraudulent text messages follows:

T662120080@ magnolia.com()3ongolia FCU Customer Issue, Service Frozen. Please Call T66 2120080.

The spelling and formatting problems should make it obvious that the message is not legitimate.
