Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Changes Name to HBCU Athletic Conference

Announcement of new brand and deepened partnership with Hope Credit Union underscores commitment to increasing economic opportunity among HBCUs and their stakeholders. TUSCALOOSA, AL — On February 29, the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) announced that it will officially become the “HBCU Athletic Conference,” honoring the unique legacy and importance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Beginning July 1, 2024, the conference will also add HBCUs Stillman College, Voorhees University and Wilberforce Universities to its roster of schools.

New Certification for Community Development Financial Institutions Represents Balanced Approach

JACKSON, MS – Today, the U.S. Treasury released updates to the Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Fund Certification Process. Upon release of the new standards, HOPE CEO, Bill Bynum released the following statement: “The updated CDFI Certification standards strike an important balance by prioritizing true mission lenders, while allowing for the flexibility required to meet the unique challenges that face people in under resourced communities. As the new process is implemented, Treasury officials must emphasize accountability by ensuring that CDFI resources benefit those who have historically, and disproportionately lacked access to affordable, responsible financial services.”

Selected for his business leadership, Bynum joins a 2023 class of members that includes businesswoman Sheila Crump Johnson, director and producer Lin-Manuel Miranda, and biochemist and geneticist Emmanuelle Charpentier.

Hope Credit Union Municipal Bond Purchase Fuels Mid-Delta Airport Improvements

THE CITY OF GREENVILLE & HOPE FEDERAL CREDIT UNION. (Jan. 18, 2023)- Mayor Errick D. Simmons today announced another key milestone in the transformation of the Greenville Mid-Delta Airport with the $11.673 million Hangar Improvement Project. Last year, the City of Greenville entered a partnership with Greenville Kearns Aerospace Maintenance, Inc., to develop aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul facilities and provide related services. Included in the Project scope is the improvement, construction, and/or installation of Hangar 450 to support future maintenance, repair, and overhaul operations at the Greenville Mid-Delta Airport to create jobs and workforce development opportunities for the Delta region.

Yellen, announced the inaugural members of the Treasury Advisory Committee on Racial Equity. The first-of-its-kind committee will provide advice and recommendations to Secretary Yellen and Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo on efforts to advance racial equity in the economy and address acute disparities for communities of color.

Hinds County Small Business COVID-19 Recovery and Resiliency Program Launched

Jackson based Hope Credit Union to Manage Program JACKSON, MS – Today, the Hinds County Board of Supervisors, in partnership with Hope Credit Union, announced the launch of the Hinds County Small Business COVID-19 Recovery and Resiliency Program. The program will increase access to small business financing and technical assistance designed to mitigate financial hardship resulting from the pandemic in Hinds County.  Hope Credit Union (HOPE) will manage the program which will begin on October 1, 2022. “Over the last few years, small businesses, particularly those owned by people of color and women have been disproportionately affected by the effects of COVID-19” said HOPE CEO Bill Bynum. “We look forward to our partnership with Hinds County to reinvest in locally owned small businesses – an innovative approach to pandemic recovery that will serve as a model for the rest of the country.”

Hank Aaron Sports Academy Selected as Host Venue for the GCAC Baseball Championship Presented by Hope Credit Union
