CrescentCare to Break Ground on New Health Center; HOPE to Announce Plans for New Location

August 8th, 2017

NEW ORLEANS, LA —July 27, 2017 1631 Elysian Fields in the 8th Ward will be the site of a new health home for the New Orleans community. CrescentCare, a Federally Qualified Health Center, will combine four of its current service sites into a comprehensive campus, set to open its doors in 2019. CrescentCare grew out of the NO/AIDS Task Force, one of the oldest AIDS Services Organization in the nation and a long-standing community organization.

CrescentCare will kick off National Health Center Week at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 15 with a ground-breaking event at the site. City Council members, the City Health Department, and financing and development partners, including HOPE (Hope Enterprise Corporation/Hope Credit Union) will join CrescentCare CEO Noel Twilbeck and CrescentCare providers, board members, staff, and leadership, for this momentous occasion.

The new health campus will expand access to affordable, quality healthcare for existing clients and newcomers alike.  CrescentCare will offer primary medical care, dentistry, pediatrics, HIV counseling & testing, case management, and behavioral health services at the site on Elysian Fields Avenue, one block north of N. Claiborne Avenue. The 8th Ward site is expected to triple the agency’s capacity for services.

Also during the ground-breaking event, HOPE will announce plans to open a credit union branch inside the health center to serve the financial needs of patients and their families.

CrescentCare’s decision to expand follows nearly three years of success at its flagship CrescentCare Health and Wellness Center located at 3308 Tulane Avenue. By tripling the number of individuals that CrescentCare can serve, CEO Noel Twilbeck believes the organization will make a meaningful impact on health outcomes in New Orleans.

Currently, there are no comparable primary care facilities in the immediate vicinity of the site. CrescentCare seeks to meet the needs of the surrounding community as the flagship health provider in the neighborhood. The site is proximate to numerous public transportation and alternative transportation routes.

This new construction project is utilizing New Markets Tax Credit allocation from Primary Care Development Corporation, HOPE, and Chase Community Development Banking. Gulf Coast Housing Partnership serves as the Developer and Project Manager.
