NEW ORLEANS — Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced Friday, April 24 that Goldman Sachs has committed $50 million as part of its 10,000 Small Businesses initiative to loans for small businesses in New Orleans and across the south, in a partnership with Hope Enterprise Corporation, a leading community development financial institution (“CDFI”). Applications are currently being accepted and can be found by visiting the Hope Enterprise Corporation Paycheck Protection Program.

HOPE is a partner with Delta Design Build on a program that provides home repair assistance to low-wealth families in Mississippi. The Special Need Assistance Program (SNAP) is a home repair grant through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB). The program provides small-dollar grants to low-income homeowners who are elderly and/or disabled, and is available annually through FHLB Member financial institutions.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Feb. 19, 2020, for a new facility at the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club in Birmingham, Ala. The project, which was financed by HOPE, expands access to tutoring and mentoring for youth in the Alabama city.

City of Baton Rouge, La. Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome on November 19 announced a major milestone in her effort to bring a healthy food retail store to North Baton Rouge. The initiative not only addresses access to nutritional food for an underserved area, but it also addresses the continued investment and revitalization of the area.

Meridian, MS – The Mississippi Children’s Museum (MCM) broke ground on its first satellite campus on Oct. 28, 2019, in Meridian, Mississippi. Construction is underway on the Mississippi Children’s Museum – Meridian (MCM-Meridian) which is located on 22nd Avenue and will include a 25,000 square foot state of the art facility featuring 9,500 square feet of exhibit and an additional 25,000 square foot outdoor exhibit experience designed for Mississippi’s youngest residents as well as their entire circle of influence. HOPE joined leaders from the community, government officials, MCM-Meridian and MCM representatives, and most importantly, local children, as they used their shovels to break ground and share in this momentous occasion.

The findings on how residents of the American South experience issues of race and class in their communities follows nearly a year-long qualitative and quantitative research phase in which the E Pluribus Unum team travelled to 28 communities across 13 states.

Four organizations from the Memphis Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Network – United Housing, River City Capital Investment, Communities Unlimited and Hope Credit Union – were awarded $3 million through JPMorgan Chase’s sixth annual national competition, Partnership for Raising Opportunity in Neighborhoods (PRO Neighborhoods). With this investment, the Memphis CDFI Network will launch its place-based strategy of working alongside residents in Memphis’ Frayser and Whitehaven neighborhoods, with hopes of moving to other Memphis 3.0, a 20-year comprehensive plan guiding the city of Memphis, communities in the near future.
