HOPE Awarded $8 Million to Support Charter School Facilities

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded an $8 million grant to Hope Enterprise Corporation to establish the HOPE Charter School Facilities Fund, which will support financing for the renovation and construction of high-quality charter school facilities in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Western Tennessee. The charter school movement has been sweeping the Mid South over the last few years.  Between the 2009-2010 school year and the 2013-14 school year, the total number of charter schools in AR, LA, MS and TN increased by 77%.  As the number of charter schools in the region expands, financing adequate and affordable facilities is a significant challenge.

  TERRY, MS – Community leaders, local residents and members of the faith community gathered in Terry to celebrate the opening of the town’s newest business – a full service branch of Hope Federal Credit Union (HOPE).  After the town’s only bank branch closed this spring, the credit union responded by making a long term commitment to restore and expand financial services to area residents.   Regions Bank donated the facility to HOPE.

New Orleans NeighborhoodLIFT® program to kick off Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 with free event at Morial Convention Center where eligible homebuyers can reserve $15,000 down payment assistance grants; program includes $500,000 to help improve neighborhoods NEW ORLEANS — Hope Enterprise Corporation, Wells Fargo, and NeighborWorks America® today joined Mayor Mitch Landrieu to announce the New Orleans NeighborhoodLIFT® program, an initiative that includes a $5.15 million commitment from Wells Fargo to boost homeownership opportunities for low and moderate income households.  The effort would assist with the city’s place-based development strategy to bring investment into all areas of New Orleans.
